Course content: This course gives a basic introduction to computing for those who have no or little experience. The course also assists those with some experience to revisit the basics and explore functionality they may not be familiar with. The course will enable the learner to gain the skills required to carry out fundamental tasks and confidently operate a P.C. Session 1 Basic PC skills - log on and run a program - Use functions of the mouse - Access drives and data stored on the computer - Create folders - Create files - Cut/copy/paste files Session 2 The Internet - Open an internet browser - Use search engines to find information. - Use Websites to find information. Session 3 Email - Set up an Email Account - Send and receive Emails Session 4 Microsoft Word - Create a Word document - Add "effects" to Word documents - Save and print work. - creating a letter, CV using templates Session 5 Spreadsheets - Input data on a spreadsheet - Use formula on a spreadsheet - Work using full range of software - Import data from Word, Excel - Capture images using ‘Print screen’ and use in documents - Feedback and discussion Course Structure: Tutor lead sessions will be made using interactive whiteboards and printed notes from online material. Class discussions will be held to help students grasp complex concepts. N.B: Homework plays an important part of this course and it is hoped you will spend an average of 1hr per week practise, excluding session time Course resources: Students have access to our fully equipped state of the art learning centre.
