Course content:

This course gives a basic introduction to creating simple web pages for those who have no or little experience. The course also assists those with some experience to revisit the basics and explore functionality they may not be familiar with.

The course will enable the learner to gain the skills required to carry out fundamental tasks and confidently produce a simple website.

Session 1 How Websites Work

- Difference between Internet and Word Wide Web
- URL explained
- Servers and their role
- Local and remote file management Creating Simple Web Pages Course
- Working with directories / folders and files

Session 2 Planning a Website

- Selecting function of the website
- Preparing a storyboard and designing content according to:

· The target market
· The message to deliver
· Your Organisation
· The action to be taken by visiting website
· Planning file / directory structure
· Gathering content

Session 3 Basic elements of a Web Page

· Text colour size and alignment
· Images size, file size and type
· Usefulness of Tables

Session 4 Assembling a Simple Web Page

· Create simple 800 x 600 resolution page
· Table and cell backgrounds and attributes
· Add text, images
·Text links, hotspots and buttons

Session 5 Editing Content

· Working with fonts (typefaces), type styles e.g. bold or italic
· Using systematic file names and extensions
· Inserting links and anchors e.g. email, internal and external hyperlinks
· Assignment
· FTP site to test server-
· Check site performance – load speed, graphic size etc
· Feedback and discussion

Course resources:

Students have access to our fully equipped learning centre. This includes internet access.  The course will provide an introduction to the use of Dreamweaver.

10 hours: 5 weeks - 2 hours per week

Costs:

£95.00.  If you are either unemployed, or over 19 and have less than a full Level 2 qualification (e.g. less than 5 A-C GCSE's) you may qualify for full funding.  Contact us for an appointment to discuss.
